Sustainability

Biodiveristy

At The Oak Grove, we let nature lead the way. We don’t use pesticides or chemicals, and our paths are gently cut through the landscape to preserve its wild, fairy-tale charm.

Wherever we plant, we choose bee- and insect-friendly species, often night-scented to attract bats, and we leave cut logs in place to create cosy habitats for overwintering wildlife. The result is a thriving haven for birds, insects, and mammals, a truly magical setting where nature is part of the celebration.

We continue to work with suppliers who work with locally sourced products from our bar stock to our eco-friendly confetti.

SUSTAINABLE POWER AT THE OAK GROVE

At The Oak Grove, sustainability has been part of our ethos from the very beginning. We installed our first solar panels back in 2010, and we’ve been expanding our renewable energy efforts ever since, all with the aim of running the venue as responsibly and beautifully as possible.

Our most recent upgrade is a 12kW solar array installed on the roof of our stables. While we host just one wedding each week, our dedicated team is on-site throughout the week, keeping everything running smoothly, from lighting and refrigeration to essential systems behind the scenes.

Solar

To make the most of the sunshine, we’ve also invested in a smart energy storage system. It captures excess solar energy during the day and powers the venue at night. Even better, it’s built from repurposed electric vehicle batteries, giving them a meaningful second life. In the winter months, when solar is limited, the system allows us to draw clean wind power from the grid at night and carry that energy through the day.

Currently, around 80% of the energy we use comes from renewable sources. The rest, drawn mostly at night, is primarily wind-generated.

This year, we’re expanding our solar capacity and increasing our storage to further reduce our reliance on the grid. It’s all part of our long-term commitment to minimising our environmental impact, and to offering couples a wedding day that’s quite literally powered by sunshine.
